Sunday Sessions: Unmasking the Misguidance in Modern Spirituality | The Abuse of Sacred Archetypes in Spirituality

A preface to this post:

This Sunday Session has been simmering in my heart for over two months. I’ve prayed long and hard, asking God to guide my words, because I know it’s going to ruffle feathers in the spiritual community. It might challenge those who twist sacred phrases for manipulation or personal gain, but I’m not here to win their approval. My priority is bringing awareness to you, our readers—this is my job, and God is my boss. This is not what God has asked of me—it is what He has commanded me.

Sharing spiritual truth means facing the uncomfortable realities head-on, even when we struggle to understand them or wrestle with those realities ourselves. Today’s topic might stir some unease, and while it’s never my goal to upset anyone, I’m not here to just smooth things over either. I want to support and encourage our readers, but above all, I’m compelled to share what my soul feels—what I believe is God’s unfiltered truth.

Today’s hard truth? The mainstream spirituality community and movement have deceived and led many astray. In fact, it has failed those who were broken by loss, relationships, or sense of self—people who sought guidance, only to be harmed or led further from true healing. These misguided teachings often prey on vulnerability, offering promises of healing while leading people further away from authentic connection, genuine self-love, and spiritual growth.

I once fell for the deceptions of dogmatic religion and modern spirituality myself, but I’ve been shown the errors in my thinking and understanding through a long period of introspection and communion with God—not through books, podcasts, or advice from others, but through silence, stillness, and genuine connection with Him. By Him and Him alone, I have found healing. He alone is where true answers are found.

I’m sharing this with humility and gratitude for this platform, guided by the Holy Spirit to skip the hashtags and let God bring the right eyes here. If you’re reading this and aren’t on our email list, I believe it’s no accident—I believe God wants you to sit with this. Let it marinate in your spirit, and let Him touch what needs touching.

We are not here to tell anyone what to believe, but rather to share what we believe to be the truth, so that you can examine it for yourself. As it is written in Philippians 2:12:

…continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling.

Ultimately, the responsibility lies with each of us to seek, question, and discern what aligns with God’s truth. Our prayers are always with you—for your health, happiness, and wholeness at every level of your being.

Unmasking the Misguidance in Modern Spirituality | The Abuse of Sacred Archetypes in Spirituality

The way spirituality is currently promoted and practiced is in dire need of examination. It has been misguided, commercialized, and even weaponized, turning sacred concepts into distorted versions of their true essence. For example, we’ve entered an era where the titles of “Divine Feminine” and “Divine Masculine” have been reduced to mere buzzwords, stripped of their original meaning. Similarly, terms like “Twin Flame,” “Manifestation,” “Shadow Work,” and “Kundalini Awakening” have been misused or exploited for personal gain or ego-driven agendas. These distortions dilute the power of these teachings and lead many seekers astray.

In future posts, we will address these issues more fully, but for today, we’ll focus on the Divine Feminine and Divine Masculine archetypes as foundational principles of spiritual balance. At the Twin Tree Project, we believe that understanding and embodying these energies is one of the most important aspects of spirituality—just below God Himself in the hierarchy. They are, from our understanding and experience, the combined embodiment of God within us.

In their truest form, the Divine Feminine represents receptivity, intuition, and nurturing, while the Divine Masculine embodies action, protection, and strength—energies meant to harmonize within us all, reflecting God’s design in Genesis 1:27 (NIV):

So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.

Much like the overuse, oversimplification, and distortion of psychological terminology (e.g., narcissism, bipolar, depression) in our society today, the spiritual concepts of the “Divine Feminine” and “Divine Masculine”—along with the labels and roles that define them—have been abused, misunderstood, and co-opted for personal gain. These titles were meant to represent sacred archetypes that exist within each of us—energies that balance and complement one another. Intended to embody harmony, authenticity, and holistic integration, these archetypes have too often become masks for unhealed wounds and unresolved shadows.

1 Corinthians 13:1-3 (NIV) supports this idea:

If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal… If I have the gift of prophecy… but do not have love, I am nothing.

Without holy love and humility, any claim of spiritual authority rings hollow.

Many individuals have claimed the title of “Divine Feminine,” but beneath the surface, their perspectives on love, connection, and oneness are rooted in fear, control, and a desire to project an idealized version of themselves. These distorted energies often push ideas that foster codependency and romanticize toxic cycles, all while ignoring the critical work of confronting inner shadows and embodying genuine self-love. Without facing the darkness within, the inner masculine energy—the energy responsible for action, protection, and stability—becomes compromised. It leaks, falters, and lacks the containment needed to channel the feminine energy properly.

Isaiah 66:13 (NIV) reads:

As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you.

This is one of many scriptures that reflects the deeply nurturing and receptive aspect of feminine energy. However, in many of today’s so-called teachings about the Divine Feminine, this aspect is often misrepresented or diluted. Women are often encouraged to believe they are entitled to this label simply because they were “chosen” or because they desire it, rather than focusing on the genuine inner transformation required. True Divine Feminine isn’t a title to claim—it’s living those virtues we see in scripture.

Similarly, there are those who claim the title of “Divine Masculine,” presenting themselves as strong, protective figures. Many, though, operate from a place of distorted masculinity and ego—prioritizing control, dominance, and a surface-level performance of strength. Beneath this façade lies an unhealed feminine energy, neglected and repressed. The feminine aspect, which governs intuition, receptivity, nurturing, and creativity, is pushed aside, leading to a cycle of perpetual imbalance.

1 Corinthians 16:13-14 (NIV) states:

Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong. Do everything in love.

This verse emphasizes that true masculinity isn’t dominance—it’s strength and courage rooted in love and integrity. However, many teachings today reduce the Divine Masculine to a narrow set of traits, such as steadfastness, financial provision, or material support. While these qualities can be important, they are only a fraction of what this energy represents—a sliver of its fuller call to love and humility.

It’s essential to understand that while feminine energy tends to be more dominant in women and masculine energy tends to be more dominant in men, both Divine Feminine and Divine Masculine energies exist within everyone, regardless of gender. Just as true Divine Feminine energy emphasizes receptivity and grace, genuine Divine Masculine energy focuses on sacrificial love, selfless leadership, and humility. This balance is purposeful—this harmony fosters growth, healing, and unity in the 3D world. Recognizing, healing, and honoring both these energies within ourselves is crucial for true spiritual wholeness, as it reflects God’s design for balance and divine order.

When one energy is suppressed or inflated, this harmony falters, deepening disconnection—and modern spiritual spaces pounce, snaring souls with aesthetics and labels, chasing validation over transformation, dragging them deeper into ego’s illusions. You’ve seen this play out—buzzwords and appearances sucking in those people who are chasing validation and instant gratification, rather than teaching them about the genuine work that needs to be done beneath the surface (work they’re too dazzled and distracted to even look for).

True spirituality calls us to examine ourselves. 2 Corinthians 13:5 (NIV) makes it clear:

Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves.

Are we truly embodying divine principles and seeking to serve God, or are we masking unhealed wounds with spiritual jargon and seeking to serve ourselves?

Healing begins when we acknowledge where our inner feminine has been neglected, where our inner masculine has become overbearing or weak, and where we’ve allowed shadows to drive our actions. True healing requires the courage to confront these imbalances and embrace the vulnerability needed to bring both energies into alignment. This alignment allows us to become vessels of authentic divine energy—an expression rooted in truth and humility, rather than a diluted or commercialized version of spirituality.

This process isn’t easy, and it often requires letting go of ego-driven illusions of spirituality—or, more accurately, what we want spirituality to look like. True spirituality is not always aesthetic, but it is always about fostering genuine connection, embracing humility, and living in service, rather than chasing an image, title, or surface-level performance for divine energy or earthly gain. Only when we understand and embody this can we break free from the cycle of spiritual distortion and step into a space of true healing, balance, and unity.

The time for authentic spiritual embodiment is now. Let us move beyond buzzwords and aesthetics and return to the heart of what it truly means to embody divine energy—in word, thought, and action. Are you ready to step into genuine divine power?

This is a call not just to claim a title, but to embody divine truth, humility, and the fullness of authentic love—love that uplifts and transforms every aspect of life. By doing this, we become not just seekers of spirituality, but conduits of real healing, unity, and authentic growth.
