Sunday Sessions: Patience in a Time of Depravity

There is no denying that we are living in an era of profound depravity. Every day, it seems as though society is unraveling further—morality is mocked, truth is distorted, and chaos is encouraged. People are desperate for justice, for order, for something to restore balance to this mess. And yet, in that desperation, many are acting out of impatience, frustration, and fear—unwittingly becoming part of the very problem they claim to oppose.

But here is the truth: God is in control. He always has been, and He always will be. No amount of earthly corruption can undo His plan, and no force of darkness can overtake what He has ordained. Everything unfolding right now has a purpose, even if we cannot yet see it.

The book of Ecclesiastes 3:1 reminds us:

To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.

We are in a season of exposure, of reckoning, of refinement. What appears to be destruction is actually the clearing away of what no longer serves God’s plan. But if we lose our composure, if we let fear dictate our actions, if we make mountains out of molehills, we risk slowing down the very process meant to lead us into something better.

The Importance of Patience

Proverbs 14:29 says:

Whoever is patient has great understanding, but one who is quick-tempered displays folly.

When people act impulsively—reacting instead of discerning, lashing out instead of waiting on God—they create unnecessary chaos. Time and energy that could be spent building something better instead gets wasted on damage control. Think of it like this:

There are positive changes happening behind the scenes. Good people are working toward restoration, toward justice, toward rebuilding a world aligned with God’s will. But, those efforts take time, focus, and energy. Every time people lose their patience and act out emotionally, that energy gets redirected to putting out fires instead of finishing the work that will bring true, lasting change.

In short: the storm will pass—but only if we don’t keep feeding it.

A Better Experience is Coming

April marks a shift. While this season of exposure is necessary, it is not permanent. But how we enter the next phase depends on whether we hold the line, stay in alignment, and refuse to be dragged into unnecessary battles. Those who keep their peace, who trust in God’s timing, and who set an example of strength and patience will not only weather the storm but emerge into something far greater.

Psalm 37:7 tells us:

Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.

Wickedness is temporary. God’s justice is eternal.

So the message today is this: Hold your ground. Stay composed. Trust that what is playing out now is necessary for what is to come. There is no need for panic, no need for rage, no need to react emotionally to every headline and distraction. Those who remain steadfast will soon see why patience was the wisest course of action all along.

This too shall pass.
