Election Day: A Reflection on Our Past, Our Present, and the Power of Our Hearts

Today is Election Day, a day that traditionally stands as a reminder of the core ideals America was founded upon: freedom, equality, and the promise that every voice matters. Since the birth of our nation, Election Day has symbolized more than just a democratic process. It’s been a ritual where the people—regardless of background, beliefs, or socioeconomic status—can come together and make their voices heard.

From the drafting of the Declaration of Independence to the Civil Rights Movement, America’s history is a complex story of struggle and resilience. This country was built on the idea that freedom is a right, not a privilege, and that governance should serve all people, not a select few. While we have never been perfect in achieving these ideals, each generation has strived, fought, and sacrificed to bring us closer to that vision. America was supposed to be a place of refuge, where people could pursue their dreams, worship freely, and stand as equals in the eyes of the law. It’s easy to forget, but this foundation is rooted in the values of unity and compassion for one another.

Today, America finds itself at a crossroads. Divisiveness is at an all-time high, trust in institutions is fraying, and even basic truths feel up for debate. We see a society that seems to have drifted far from the original promise of unity and equality. Instead, we face growing polarization, a breakdown in civil discourse, and political leaders who often prioritize power over the welfare of the people. We’re teetering on the edge of what could become a full breakdown of the systems and government we’ve relied upon for centuries.

This moment in time forces us to confront the reality that democracy is fragile. It’s more than just a structure; it’s a shared agreement to respect each other’s humanity and our differences. When that agreement erodes, we face a risk of losing not just our government but the core of our identity as a nation.

This is Why We Must Keep Our Hearts Centered in Love.

Despite the challenges we face, each of us has a powerful role to play in what comes next. The energy we bring into this day—and every day—matters. Voting is just one part of it. The real work lies in the daily practice of keeping our hearts open and our minds focused on the highest good. When fear and anger take the lead, we lose sight of love and compassion, which are the true tools for creating lasting change.

If we wish to see peace and justice in the world, we must first cultivate them within ourselves. Every small action we take to center ourselves in love—to treat our neighbors with kindness, to engage with empathy, and to rise above pettiness and blame—sends ripples of positive energy into the world. We can contribute to the healing of our nation by maintaining hope, focusing on the vision of what we want to create, rather than what we fear we’ll lose.

This Election Day, I’d encourage us all to take a moment to center ourselves. Close your eyes, take a few deep breaths, and remember that no matter how divided things may feel, love is still a force that binds us. In choosing to keep our vibrations high and our hearts centered, we are doing more than casting a vote—we’re committing to a future built on unity, respect, and compassion.

America may feel fractured today, but we each hold a piece of her spirit within us. As we navigate these turbulent times, let us do so with an open heart, staying connected to the highest good for all. Together, we can work to restore the promise of what this country was always meant to be.
