Embracing The Seasons Within

I had a talk with myself this morning, as one needs to do every now and then. I don’t know if anyone besides me needs to hear this, but just in case, it went like this:

Just like the trees, the grass, and the flowers, you have seasons. You’re not meant to bloom all year round. Nature reminds us of this truth every day. The flowers don’t force themselves to blossom in winter. The trees don’t cling to their leaves when it’s time to let them go. They rest, renew, and wait for their time to rise again—and so should we.

It’s okay to need rest. It’s okay to not be at 100% capacity all the time. Somewhere along the way, we’ve been convinced that constant productivity is a measure of our worth. That to have value, we must always be growing, producing, or thriving. But that’s simply not true—it’s a recipe for burnout.

When you feel your own “winter” approaching—those moments when energy is low, when moods dip, when rest feels more urgent than action—consider this your invitation to be kind to yourself. This is not failure; it’s just part of the cycle. These quieter times are just as important as the vibrant ones. They give us the space to heal, to reflect, and to prepare for what’s next.

So, I challenge you:

When you find yourself in a lower mood, instead of fighting it or forcing yourself to “power through,” pause. Ask yourself, How can I be more accepting of where I am right now? What expectations am I holding onto that I can release?

Drop the “shoulds” and “shouldn’ts” that weigh you down. What would it feel like to simply be—just like the trees outside just are?

Play with this idea. When the trees lose their leaves, we don’t criticize them for not staying green. When the flowers retreat into the earth, we don’t scold them for not blooming. We trust that they are following their natural rhythm, and that they will return in their time.

Can you offer yourself the same grace? Can you honor the rhythm within you?

This season, I invite you to reflect on the wisdom of nature. Rest when you need it. Be gentle with yourself. Trust that when the time is right, you’ll bloom again—stronger, brighter, and more radiant than before.

That’s the way of things.
