Rising and Ascending: Shifting Perspectives for the Coming Year

The higher we rise in our perspective, the clearer we see—not just our own path, but the connections that guide and shape us. (An inspired thought from morning meditation)

This morning, I reflected on the importance of self-awareness and growth as we step into a new year. Now, I’d like to build on that idea, inspired by a talk I recently listened to by Caroline Myss (watch it here). In her talk, Myss explores archetypes—universal patterns of behavior and energy—and their profound influence on our personal and collective experiences. As we move into 2025, I believe understanding these archetypes can serve as a powerful tool for navigating life with clarity and purpose.

One of the key takeaways from her talk is this: understanding archetypes allows us to rise above narrow perspectives and see the broader dynamics at play in our relationships, choices, and even societal trends.

By learning to identify these patterns, we gain clarity and insight into ourselves and the world around us. Understanding our own archetypes helps us recognize our strengths, weaknesses, and tendencies, which can guide us toward better decisions and a more authentic way of living.

Similarly, recognizing the archetypes of those around us fosters empathy and discernment, allowing us to navigate relationships more effectively. It becomes easier to set boundaries, communicate clearly, and avoid unnecessary conflict when we understand the motivations and dynamics underlying people’s behavior.

This awareness empowers us to make choices that align with our highest good and contribute to more harmonious interactions.

What Does It Mean to Rise?

To rise is to lift ourselves beyond the constraints of our immediate circumstances, emotions, and fears. It’s a conscious decision to shift our focus upward, to see beyond the surface. Myss’s exploration of archetypes emphasizes this process: when we understand the deeper patterns shaping our lives, we can approach challenges with wisdom and grace rather than reaction or frustration.

As we enter this new year, rising in perspective will be crucial. Challenges will come, as they always do, but how we choose to see them will determine whether we feel stuck or empowered. Rising allows us to approach life from a place of wisdom and clarity rather than reaction or fear.

The Power of Ascension

While rising helps us shift our perspective, ascension takes it a step further. It’s about embodying a higher state of being—living with intention, compassion, and purpose. Ascension invites us to align with our truest self and, in doing so, inspire others to do the same.

Myss explains in the linked lecture (above) that archetypes like the Healer, Warrior, or Judge are not just abstract ideas but powerful energies we can embody. Each archetype carries its own lessons and challenges, offering us opportunities to ascend beyond the ego and step into a more expansive version of ourselves.

Managing and Protecting Our Energy in 2025

Key points:

• Identify what drains your energy.

• Invest in energy sources that align with your values.

• Maintain a healthy balance in relationships.

These points emphasize the importance of energy management, as illustrated by Myss’s breakdown of the vampire archetype. This archetype represents anything that drains us—be it people, habits, or even our own thought patterns. As we step into 2025, it’s essential to take responsibility for our energy. Start by identifying the drains in your life, whether they are toxic relationships, unhealthy habits, or overcommitments. Once you’ve identified these drains, focus on aligning your energy investments with your values and priorities.

Healthy relationships require a balance of give and take. Reflect on where you may be overextending yourself or, conversely, receiving without giving in return. Finally, owning your energy means being intentional about when to act, when to rest, and how to preserve your vitality. Protecting your energy isn’t selfish—it’s a form of self-respect and an essential foundation for living intentionally.

Practical Ways to Rise and Ascend

Key steps:

• Learn about archetypes.

• Pause and reflect before reacting.

• Practice gratitude and connect with God/Source.

Understanding archetypes, as Myss suggests, can reveal the deeper patterns shaping our lives. Whether it’s the Addict archetype showing where we cling to unhealthy habits or the Healer archetype calling us to serve, these patterns offer valuable insight.

In addition to studying archetypes, make a habit of pausing and reflecting before reacting. A simple question like “How can I see this differently?” can shift your perspective dramatically. Practicing gratitude regularly also has a powerful effect—it reorients your focus from what’s lacking to what’s abundant. Finally, staying connected to God/Source through prayer, meditation, or other spiritual practices anchors your ascension journey and aligns you with divine wisdom.

A Year to Rise Together

As we move into this new year, I encourage you to rise in your perspective and embrace the process of ascension. It’s not always easy, but as Caroline Myss reminds us, understanding the deeper patterns in our lives gives us the tools to navigate life’s complexities with greater ease and insight.

Let this year be one of rising—beyond fear, beyond ego, and into the fullness of who we are meant to be.
