Verse of the Day – July 28, 2026

He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. — Revelation 21:4

What’s Happening Here

John is given a vision of the new heaven and the new earth. The old order has passed away. God Himself now dwells with His people. In this climactic moment, the promise is spoken: every source of human grief will be removed. Tears, death, sorrow, crying, and pain will be gone forever.

The Word

The phrase “wipe every tear” is deeply personal. It is not a distant declaration. It is the image of God Himself gently removing the evidence of suffering from the faces of His people. “No more” is repeated for emphasis. Death, sorrow, crying, and pain are not merely reduced. They are abolished. The old order of brokenness has no place in the new creation.

The World Then

The original readers of Revelation lived under the weight of persecution, loss, and uncertainty. Many had already buried loved ones or faced the threat of death for their faith. This vision offered more than comfort. It offered a future so certain that present suffering could be endured in light of it. The promise of a world without tears was not abstract theology. It was hope with a face.

An Echo in History

This verse has sustained believers through centuries of grief. It has been whispered at gravesides, written in letters from prison, and sung in times of war and plague. From the early martyrs to modern saints who have buried children or faced terminal illness, the same assurance has held: one day God Himself will wipe away every tear. The pain is real now, but it is not final.

The Living Edge

We still live in the already and the not yet. Tears still fall. Death still comes. Sorrow and pain still mark our days. This verse does not deny the reality of present suffering. It places it inside a larger story. The day is coming when God will personally remove every cause of grief. Until then, we hold the promise close. It steadies us in the waiting and reminds us that our present pain is not the end of the story.

A Closing Thought

He will wipe every tear.

There will be no more death, sorrow, crying, or pain.

The old order is passing away.

Verse and Vision is a daily series exploring the verse of the day — not just what it says, but what it means. Each post unpacks the biblical context, digs into the original language, and traces the historical and philosophical world behind the text. Where the Word echoes across history, we follow it. Where it lands in the present, we don’t look away.
