Verse of the Day – July 31, 2026
All glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. — Ephesians 3:20-21
What’s Happening Here
Paul has just finished praying a rich prayer for the Ephesian believers. He has asked that they would be strengthened by the Spirit, that Christ would dwell in their hearts through faith, and that they would grasp the vast love of God. Immediately after that prayer he breaks into praise. The focus shifts from what we ask to what God is able to do.
The Word
The key phrase is “able… to accomplish infinitely more.” The Greek carries the sense of power that exceeds every limit of human imagination. “Through his mighty power at work within us” anchors the promise. This is not distant power. It is God’s strength already present and active in the lives of His people. The result is glory given back to God, not claimed for ourselves.
The World Then
The church in Ephesus lived in a city known for magic, power, and spiritual competition. Many felt small in the face of cultural and spiritual forces larger than themselves. Paul reminds them that the true power is not found in external displays but in the quiet, mighty work of God within ordinary believers. What God can do far surpasses what any human system or spiritual practice could claim.
An Echo in History
This verse has encouraged believers facing situations that seemed beyond hope. From early missionaries stepping into unknown lands to quiet saints praying through long seasons of weakness, the same truth has held: God is able to do more than we ask or even imagine. The power is His, and it works within us.
The Living Edge
We often limit our prayers to what feels realistic. We ask carefully, thinking within the boundaries of what we can see or control. This verse invites us to lift our eyes higher. God is not limited by our imagination. His power is already at work within us, and He is able to accomplish far beyond what we dare to request. The invitation is to trust His capacity more than our own understanding, and to give Him the glory when He does what only He can do.
