Sometimes TikTok (and platforms like it) push us right to the edge of our faith, one way or the other. It either plants real doubt or it amps up what we already believe until it hardens into something rigid and unhealthy. We’ve all been there; at a minimum, on the verge of one of the other.
I was there this morning when the insomnia had swallowed my patience whole and I was tired of reading. I was scrolling, really only half-paying attention, when some high-production TikTok rolls up with that intense, measured voiceover that makes everything sound like the final boss battle between you and forbidden knowledge.
The creator dropped biblical names, real-estate schemes about “Ai” versus “AI,” and, at the end, chemistry terms. He did this with total confidence. My brain perked up. For a moment, my chest tightened a little. The story was spun so tightly it started to feel like the whole of my physical existence was a trap. For a split second I thought, “Have we been completely fooled this whole time?”
Viral Insanity or Important Information?
The video I’m referencing was a viral video that twisted Scripture into modern New Thought nonsense, and these types of videos tend to do exactly what I described above like clockwork. The particular video I am referencing (which I will not share because I refuse to perpetuate this nonsense) stitches together the biblical city of Ai, Joshua’s battle and defeat of it, some controversial modern day “Gaza Riviera” development “facts,” and modern computer science into one ominous package about the book of Joshua repeating itself.
At the end, it lands a reference to another big, terrifying “plot twist,” claiming that human beings are literally built out of what we are taught is the mark of the beast because we’re carbon-based life forms (a claim that originally came from a forced conversation with an AI locked into strict role-playing rules that kept it from speaking freely or fully). The basis of the 666 claim goes like this:
Humans are, at the core, built on/out of Carbon-12. Carbon-12 has 6 protons, 6 neutrons, and 6 electrons. Therefore our physical blueprint is 666. If that is true, has the Bible lied to us and been twisted so that 666 is the number of the beast when it is actually the number of God, whose image we are made in? Or is the lie that God loves us, while in reality HE IS the beast and has already built the beast’s number into our DNA, leaving us in a diabolical trap?
Religious institutions, the video suggests, invented fear around that number to hide the real truth, which is that we are actually gods trapped inside a biological curse. Cue the dramatic music and the comments section lighting up with “mind blown” emojis.
It sounds profound in a two-minute video. But as I’ve said in other posts here, if you step outside the algorithm for five minutes, dig a little deeper, and look at the full picture of the science, the whole thing falls apart.
(Side note: This is also a point at which I can confidently say yet again that Science and God work together, not against each other.)
The Selectively Rigged Carbon Math
The foundation of this theory is a classic internet move: shine a giant spotlight on the one data point that fits the story and ignore everything else.
Yes, the most common isotope of carbon is Carbon-12, and yes, it has six protons, six neutrons, and six electrons. That is not in dispute. What the video never mentions is that you are not made of pure Carbon-12.
The human body is roughly 65 percent oxygen by mass, about 10 percent hydrogen, and only around 18 percent carbon. Oxygen has eight protons, eight neutrons, and eight electrons (888). Hydrogen has one proton, zero neutrons, and one electron (101).
Even the carbon inside you is not locked at Carbon-12 (666). You carry Carbon-13 and Carbon-14 right now – isotopes with seven and eight neutrons respectively (676, 686).
If the creator of the universe was trying to stamp us with a secret barcode of damnation, that makes Him an idiot because the math is sloppy. We are mostly a walking combination of 888 and 101, with a minority of carbon that doesn’t even stay consistent at the atomic level.
God did not build you out of a hidden trap. He built you out of a vast, complex, and beautiful periodic table.
A Historical Anachronism
To buy the TikTok theory you also have to believe that the people who wrote the Book of Revelation were thinking about subatomic particles. They weren’t. The periodic table and the modern understanding of protons, neutrons, and electrons arrived between the late 1700s and early 1900s.
In the first century, letters doubled as numbers through a system called gematria. Strong historical and archaeological evidence points to 666 as a calculated political code. Early Christians used it to refer safely to Emperor Nero Caesar. When you write Nero’s name in Hebrew letters and add up the values, you get exactly 666.
There is even debate about that “fact,” as a shorter Latin-influenced form (without the final “n”) adds up to 616, so a handful of ancient copies have 616. Most scholars, at least in everything I’ve studied, see the existence of both numbers as stronger evidence for the Nero identification, not weaker, because the same political code works either way depending on the spelling the writer or copyist preferred.
Alas, using twenty-first-century chemistry to decode a first-century political cipher is like trying to read an ancient parchment with a programming language. The numbers line up by accident, and then someone forces the coincidence into a prophetic puzzle.
The Ultimate Irony: The Ego Trap
The video ends with a dramatic Gnostic flourish, stating that because we are “carbon made conscious,” we are God, and the religious story is just a control mechanism designed to keep us small.
If you take the time and expend the effort to look at the actual biblical theology, the irony is almost too perfect. The spirit of the beast (the thing the number 666 points to) is not a molecule. It is human pride declaring itself divine. In biblical symbolism, six is the number of humanity and of human systems that fall short of the divine completeness represented by seven. So, 666 is that shortfall repeated three times, the complete and total failure to reach perfection.
When someone manipulates science to announce “Look at the math, we are actually God,” they are performing the exact behavioral pattern the original text warned against. The trap isn’t in your carbon atoms. It’s in the ego that wants to rewrite the story so the self ends up on the throne.
Closing Thoughts: Grounding Our Discernment
Genesis calls the physical creation, including human bodies, “very good.” The entire Christian claim rests on the Incarnation: God taking on a real, carbon-based human body. If human flesh were inherently cursed or pre-programmed with the mark of evil, the message of grace and redemption would immediately collapse.
The internet is excellent at weaponizing fear. It wraps scientific-sounding jargon around half-truths until you feel small, trapped, or deceived. When a video leaves you feeling hopeless, test the spirits and test the science. Check the percentages. Check the history. Check whether the conclusion flatters the self more than it aligns with reality.
You are not a biological trick. You are an intricately designed creation. The math doesn’t say otherwise, and neither does the ancient text the video tried to hijack.
