Romans 8:31 is not a personal empowerment promise. It’s a theological calculation. Hyper hēmōn — for us — is substitutionary language, the same word used in Romans 5:8 when Christ dies for us. God is not cheering from the sidelines. He has placed Himself between us and whatever stands against us. Paul’s question isn’t “will anything be against you?” — of course things will be. The question is whether any of it measures up against the One who is for you. Run the numbers. They don’t.
