Paul’s joy in 2 Corinthians 7:4 isn’t despite the troubles — it’s inside them. Hyperperisseuomai: joy that overflows, more than he can hold, happening in the middle of unchanged suffering. And the fuel for it is parrēsia — frankness, the willingness to be genuinely known rather than strategically managed. Real relationship produced real joy. The circumstances were the same. The variable was love received and returned. That math still works.
