Verse of the Day – July 27, 2026
My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry… — James 1:19
Sometimes I wake up, look at the verse of the day, and feel like it’s a direct message from God. Sometimes it even feels like a personal attack. This morning was one of those days.
Last night I was praying what I would describe as “aggressively.” I was not exactly complaining, but honestly trying to figure out how to keep living inside the circumstances I’ve been carrying for a while now. Surgical menopause has been with me for years, but the heart issues, the frozen shoulder syndrome and the chronic pain, the exhaustion, the full weight of it has only become truly debilitating over the last eight months or so. Last week the frustration finally boiled over. I found myself crying out to God with zero polish:
“My Dude. Just… do something. Please. Help me.”
Yeah, it got a bit impersonal. It wasn’t that I was not still in awe of Him, and still full of respect for Him. It’s just the way we seem to jive. He wants us to come to Him as we are, and tells us so in His Word. So I showed up exactly as I was, praying about my body and everything that isn’t working the way it should. And in the quiet, He said something simple and sharp:
“You can’t ask Me to heal you and stay loyal to what is killing you.”
I sat there for a second. Duh.
So the prayer shifted. “Okay, God. Deliver me. Deliver me from what I am allowing, even choosing, to block Your blessing.”
His answer came just as clearly: “Surrender it, and I will.”
Simple. Profound. And a whole lot easier said than done – especially when, in the moment, you truly have no idea what exactly it is you need to surrender (besides your entire Self).
I texted a friend about it. She asked what was “killing” me. Was it my shoulder? I told her the truth: vaping, eating garbage, barely walking beyond the absolute minimum, worrying when I should be trusting… so many small ways I’ve been working against my own healing. There’s only so much God can do with menopause itself, regardless. The rest is on me. I’m the one who’s been getting in the way.
She offered empathy about getting older. I joked back that time is so rude – but better older than dead!
Getting older just means we have to change how we live. We have to work with our bodies instead of against them. It’s less fun than youth, but there’s a quieter kind of peace in it.
Later that night I saw a TikTok using a Mel Robbins soundbite. She was talking about hiking: the mountain isn’t the point. Getting to the top isn’t even the point. The trail itself is the point. Focus on the trail right in front of you. The journey is the destination.
I made a little video of my own with that sound and let it sit overnight. It didn’t fully click until this morning, when I opened my phone and saw today’s verse. For the sake of making it as clear as God made it to me, here it is again:
My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry. — James 1:19
At first it felt like another gut punch. The last few days I have been so impatient. Impatient with my body. Impatient with my heart. Impatient with the circumstances. Impatient with God. Quick to snap at the dogs, at my husband, at myself. Quick to think, “No one understands. I wish I had someone I could talk to.”
And of course I do. His name is Father. He already showed up last night, when I did. But this morning the verse still felt like correction. It felt like He was coming for my attitude as much as my habits.
Then the TikTok message and the verse landed together in my spirit, and I felt like God was saying:
I’m giving you experiences and words that can bless other people. I want you to shine what I’m showing you, not get mad and shrink because it doesn’t match the version of the work you had planned for Twin Tree Project.
The reality of the work may not look the way you pictured it. But it only stops being a blessing – to you and to others – when you reject it because it doesn’t feel how you wanted it to feel.
Easier said than done, and I noted that. But what a gift to hear from Him at all. Right? What a gift to have His ear, and His heart. What a gift to be in conversation with Him. What a gift to know – not just to believe, but to KNOW – that He is there. What a gift to still be here, alive and breathing, with the chance not just to talk with Him, and to each other, but to walk it out.
So this is me, choosing the trail instead of resenting the mountain. This is me choosing to be a little quicker to listen, a little slower to speak, and a lot slower to get angry – even when I’m tired and frustrated and the body isn’t cooperating.
I want to take this opportunity to remind you: Be thankful in all things. Praise the One who created you and still holds every blessing you have left, even in the bleakest seasons. It’s in the praising that strength and resolve return. It’s through that praise that He fills us with His peace and His love.
Don’t let tiredness or frustration push you to walk in the flesh before the spirit. Stay humble. Stay grateful. Stay faithful to what is good and true.
That’s the invitation for me today.
Maybe it’s yours too.
The Lord bless you and keep you; The Lord make His face shine upon you, And be gracious to you; The Lord lift up His countenance upon you, And give you peace. — Numbers 6:24-26
Verse and Vision is a daily series exploring the verse of the day — not just what it says, but what it means. Each post unpacks the biblical context, digs into the original language, and traces the historical and philosophical world behind the text. Where the Word echoes across history, we follow it. Where it lands in the present, we don’t look away.
