I am very used to being looked at as mentally unstable. A conspiracy theorist. “Too much.” Someone who is not living in reality. I get it, and it does not have any effect at all on me at this point in my life. From the outside looking in – especially if your eyes are closed, your soul has been trained shut, and your entire life is driven by pure logical function – this kind of in-depth spiritual perspective of the world can look unhinged.
Most people have been discipled into that closed system. They haven’t broken through the shell yet. Fair enough. I don’t blame them for the diagnosis they hand me. It makes sense from where they’re standing. But let me tell you about true mental instability. There is a true level of insanity, especially across social media which intentionally feeds it, that is destroying not only lives, but society.
Open TikTok. Scroll for five minutes. Take note of what the algorithm feeds and what the comments reward.
Here are the first two examples I noted last night:
People are out here fully convinced the sun is about to nova. Not in five billion years when it becomes a red giant like actual astronomy says, but now. Or, soon. Or, “they know.”
They’re stitching together Pete Hegseth calling generals home last year, ICE deportations, old Netflix shows, Bird Box, and I’m not making this up, Scooby-Doo episodes featuring a dog named Nova as “predictive programming.” They’re telling everyone the elites are heading into bunkers because a solar micronova is coming and most people won’t survive it. The comments are full of “this is it,” “wake up,” and heart-eye emojis.
Then the next video: Iran is about to attack the U.S. power grid stateside any day now. Full blackout. Lights out. The government isn’t ready even though CISA, the energy sector, and every relevant agency have been publicly warning about Iranian cyber probes for months and actively hardening systems. Real cyber threats get inflated into imminent national collapse theater. The same creators who five minutes ago were certain about a stellar explosion are now certain about infrastructure Armageddon, and the engagement pours in.
And after these two examples, I closed TikTok, opened my PDF app, and dove back into the files I’d saved from the Internet Archive. I replaced this BS noise with the same material these people would have you believing is “nonsense” and “ridiculous”: Carl Jung’s The Red Book, Meister Eckhart’s sermons, The Cloud of Unknowing, St. John of the Cross’s Dark Night of the Soul, Teresa of Ávila’s The Interior Castle, the Philokalia, Jakob Böhme’s writings, and classic alchemical texts.
Why?
Because the TikTok examples I gave you above are not examples of careful people reading primary sources, considering those sources, and holding tension or sorting it. These are people whose worldview is assembled from thirty-second clips, movie plots, and the dopamine of being “in the know.” They are fed by the feedback loop. Validated by the common thread of ignorance. The more alarming and disconnected from actual physics or strategy the claim, the harder the algorithm pushes it and the louder the amen corner gets.
And somehow these voices are praised. They are shared virally. While people who speak from a spiritual perspective, people who talk about the soul, about what is unseen, about prophetic patterns, about the difference between the carnal mind and the mind that has eyes to see, are dragged, invalidated, called mentally unstable, and told we are not living in reality, these “sun is about to nova” type people and their content are treated as awakened.
-insert cry laughing emoji here-
I don’t laugh because these people are not educated enough to know that the sun can’t nova. I laugh because it makes it less uncomfortable as I wince and die a little inside because they do not care that they are not educated. They do not want to be educated. They don’t even want to read. They just take what they hear and see in other minute-long clips, mix it into a proverbial bowl with a whole bunch of other random things that sound like they’d “taste” good, and come up with what they believe sounds logical. Except it isn’t logical at all. Yet they call themselves enlightened and awake.
And why are those who used to be called “geeks” and “bookworms” and “nerds” and “too deep” suddenly now the ones labeled mentally unstable or conspiracy theorists? Is it because the “modern enlightened” can’t see it? No. It’s because the “modern enlightened” don’t read, and they have no interest in learning. They don’t care about facts, and when facts are presented to them they refuse them for that very reason.
Let me be clear about the difference between these realities:
The “sun is about to nova” claim is not spirituality. It is scientific illiteracy wearing a conspiracy hat. Our sun is a main-sequence star. It is not a white dwarf in a binary system. It cannot nova. That is not a matter of hidden knowledge or elite cover-up. It is basic stellar physics. Mixing it with Scooby-Doo and Bird Box does not make it profound. It makes it ridiculous. The same goes for turning every real geopolitical tension or cyber advisory into “the lights are going out tomorrow and only the enlightened see it.” That is not discernment. That is pattern-seeking without the restraint of truth.
Spirituality, the kind that has cost people like me decades of deconstruction, grief, surrender, and the willingness to be misunderstood, is something else entirely. It is the recognition that there is more than the material. That the soul can perceive what the closed logical mind cannot. That Scripture, lived experience, the Holy Spirit, and the long arc of human history point to realities that do not fit neatly inside a lab or a news cycle.
It does not require inventing stellar explosions or ignoring how power grids and nation-state cyber operations actually work. It requires the opposite: the courage to stay rooted in what is true while remaining open to what is deeper than the visible.
I have been called crazy for saying the soul is real. I am consistently criticized for talking about prophetic overflow versus codependency and refusing to outsource my mind to the latest panic or the latest institutional narrative. I am labeled “judgmental” for insisting that authenticity is more important than performance and that God still speaks. Those accusations come from people who have never tasted the other side of the veil and therefore assume it does not exist, yet claim to be enlightened.
Meanwhile the social feed is full of people who believe the sun is about to explode because a TikTok told them so, and they are celebrated for “waking up.”
That is the real inversion. That is the real instability.
The closed soul will always pathologize what it cannot see. The algorithm will always reward whatever keeps people scrolling in fear or false superiority. Neither of those things is the measure of reality.
I will keep seeing what I see. I will keep writing from the place that has been forged in actual fire, grief, cancer, caregiving, deconstruction, the long obedience of learning to live from the soul instead of the ego. And I will keep laughing, a little, at the absurdity of being called unstable by a culture that treats Scooby-Doo as prophetic literature.
You don’t have to see it yet. Most people don’t. But don’t confuse your inability to see with my instability. One of those two things is a limitation. The other is just the view from the other side of the shell.
And the shell, eventually, can break.
What do you see when the noise of the feed goes quiet? What have you been told is “too much” that might actually be true? Sit with it. Test it. Don’t outsource the seeing.
