There is a season that most people who have walked any serious spiritual or personal journey will recognize the moment you name it. It does not announce itself. It does not come with a warning label or a timeline or a clear explanation. It simply arrives — and what it brings with it is a kind of interior darkness that is unlike ordinary sadness, unlike depression as most people understand it, unlike grief in the conventional sense. It is a darkness that feels specifically targeted. As though whatever light you had been navigating by has simply gone out. If you have been there, you know exactly what I am describing.
