Verse of the Day – August 28, 2026
Now may the God of peace equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen. — Hebrews 13:20-21
What’s Happening Here
The writer of Hebrews is bringing the letter to a close with a blessing. After calling the readers to endurance, holiness, and love, he does not leave them to carry that calling in their own strength. He prays that the God of peace will equip them and work in them what pleases Him, through Jesus Christ.
The Word
“God of peace” names the One who makes whole what is fractured. “Equip” means to furnish or make complete for a purpose. The purpose is “doing his will.” Then the prayer goes deeper: may He work in us what is pleasing to Him. The life that honors God is not produced by willpower alone. It is formed in us through Jesus Christ, and the glory belongs to Him forever.
The World Then
The first readers were weary. Some were tempted to drift, shrink back, or return to older securities. Hebrews has been a long call to hold fast to Jesus. This blessing meets that weariness with provision. God Himself will supply what is needed and do the inner work that makes obedience possible.
An Echo in History
This prayer has been spoken over congregations, missionaries, and ordinary believers at the end of hard seasons. It has reminded the church that faithfulness is not a solo project. Across the centuries, people who felt unequal to the will of God have found rest in the same hope: He equips, He works within, and the glory goes to Christ.
The Living Edge
We often know what God asks and still feel under-equipped. This blessing tells the truth about that gap. The God of peace does not only command. He furnishes what is good for doing His will, and He works in us what pleases Him. Our part is to receive the work He is already willing to do through Jesus. The pressure to produce a pleasing life in our own strength can lift. Glory belongs to Christ.
