Romans 12:1 calls us to give our bodies to God as a living and holy sacrifice because of all He has done for us. In light of the gospel, our ordinary physical lives become an ongoing act of worship.

Paul doesn’t tell you to feel joyful about your affliction. He tells you to stay hopeful underneath it, to remain there without collapsing, and to keep showing up in prayer while you wait. Three present participles, one continuous posture — because removing any one of them collapses the other two. Corrie ten Boom prayed in a concentration camp barracks the guards wouldn’t enter. That’s what this verse looks like with skin on.
