Authenticity Unveiled | Emotional Supply and the God Who Cuts It Off

Today I want to talk about something most of the Church still soft-pedals: emotional supply.

I noticed it early. Even as a child growing up in the full gospel, Assembly of God movement, I picked up on something that never sat right. The modern church has long been skilled at using the emotions of well-meaning Christians. At first glance, with all the sermons on tithing, prosperity, and “you get what you give,” you might think the pressure is mainly material. It isn’t.

It’s not money. It’s not favors. It’s not even the obvious manipulation of resources. I’m talking about the deeper currency certain narcissistic, demonically influenced people feed on: your empathy, your presence, your heart, your energy, and your willingness to keep showing up, hoping they will finally change. They need you to keep supplying them. And for a long time, many of us did, thinking it was godliness.

Why This Matters Now

We are living in a reality thick with self-centeredness, entitlement, and people who have learned to survive by draining others. The system of the modern age trains people to take without giving, to demand validation while refusing accountability, and to call it “relationship.” What used to be called manipulation is now often baptized as “boundaries” or “self-care” when they do it. When we finally stop feeding it, the same people label us “cold” or “unloving.”

God is not silent about this. He is actively removing the supply that kept these dynamics going, not out of cruelty, but out of mercy both for the drained and for the ones doing the draining. He is forcing a reckoning. And those of us who have walked through it are being positioned to speak clearly about what we have learned.

The Long Drain, Not the Single Event

From the outside it can look like one dramatic moment broke the connection. From the inside we know better. It was months. Years. Sometimes it’s a lifetime of subtle, crafty power games. Regardless, it comes down to the slow siphoning of your thoughts, your time, your emotional labor, your hope that if you just stayed kind enough, patient enough, present enough, they would eventually turn.

We suffered in silence, practicing self-control while injustice kept happening, telling ourselves, “Surely this will pay off. Surely they will see.” We normalized it. They normalized it. They told us, “This is just who you are. This is how we do things.” And when God finally began freeing us, they accused us of changing for the worse.

Scripture already named this spirit:

“For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ. And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light.” —2 Corinthians 11:13-14

They saw the purity in you. They saw the unselfish giving, the lending hand, the open heart, and they tried to capture it. They didn’t seek to honor it, but to use it as fuel so they would never have to face themselves.

God Himself Removed the Supply

Here is the hard and holy truth: God has removed that supply. On purpose.

He has done it so they can feel the loss of your presence. He has done it so they can sit with themselves, and so that the illusion that they can keep living off someone else’s empathy finally collapses. This is not you being mean. This is the Lord saying, “Enough.”

Romans 12:19 is not a suggestion, but a command:

“Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, ‘Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,’ says the Lord.”

His timing is precise. He allowed the experience long enough for us to recognize the pattern, to exhaust every natural attempt to contribute, to “help” them, and to finally see that some people – and certainly the institution of the church – simply do not want to be healed. Their pride has made them unteachable. Your awakening threatens the entire structure they have built to avoid looking inward.

And so He repositions you. He restores your time, your energy, your clarity. He proves who you are and Whose you are.

Armor Up — They Are Relentless

Do not be naïve. These people have studied you. They know your buttons. They know the language of love, concern, and “I miss you” that once worked. They will wait for the perfect moment and come disguised as care, hoping to gauge where you still have soft places they can exploit.

Jesus already warned us:

“Do not give what is holy to the dogs; nor cast your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn and tear you in pieces.” —Matthew 7:6

Sometimes the most loving, obedient thing you can do is go no contact. Not out of bitterness, but out of wisdom. You have already tried packaging the truth for them in a hundred different ways. Their refusal is not your failure. It is their choice.

What the Wilderness Taught Us

Looking back, we can now see the mercy in the long season. We had to go through it so we would recognize it the next time. And, make no mistake, there will be a next time. These spirits are everywhere. The same pattern shows up in families, workplaces, churches, friendships, and online communities. God used the pain to equip us. Now we can plant seeds of discernment for those who are still in the thick of it and cannot yet name what is happening to them.

We are not called to be emotional punching bags in the name of endurance. We are called to walk in the light, to guard the heart God has given us, and to refuse to keep fueling what He Himself is cutting off.

A Word for the Ones Still Supplying

If you are reading this and something in your spirit is stirring, whispering, “This is my situation,” hear me: you are not crazy. You are not unloving for finally seeing it. God is not asking you to keep dying so someone else can keep refusing to live. He is inviting you into freedom, clarity, and a restored sense of who you actually are when you are no longer submitted to another person’s will.

Let Him finish the work of cutting the supply. Armor up. Stay no contact if that is what wisdom requires. And keep walking forward into the peace and purpose He is restoring.

The enemy does not get the last word. God does. And He is already teaching multiple parties through the same experience – some toward repentance, some toward liberation, and all of us toward greater dependence on Him alone.

“And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.” —1 Corinthians 13:13
