Looking at unexpected snapshots of myself, I did not recognize the person looking back. After years of caregiving, loss, and feeling like an orphan on earth, the face in the photos simultaneously said “this is who you are now” and “who are you now?” This is the quiet, tear filled space of delayed grief and spiritual becoming, where the outer form no longer matches the inner knowing, yet I remain a child of God, fully known even when I do not yet fully know myself.

Phroneite — set your minds — is the same word Paul uses in Philippians 2 for the mind of Christ and in Philippians 4 for whatever is true and good and worthy. It’s not a thought exercise. It’s the full disposition of the inner life: where attention, affection, and allegiance are pointed. And Paul’s logic in Colossians 3 is therefore — because you have already died with Christ and your life is hidden in Him, orient from that reality. This isn’t aspiration. It’s consequence. You don’t need to get to things above. You already belong there.
